National Museum of Dance

Lewis A. Swyer Studios

Named for National Museum of Dance founder Lewis A. Swyer, the Studios were completed in 1992. Home to the School of the Arts, these three state-of-the-art studios have been used by the New York State Summer School of the Arts (NYSSSA) Schools of Ballet and Dance for over twenty-five years, residencies such as the Saratoga Summer Dance Intensive (SSDI), and by several major dance companies for national auditions. The Studios are also the site of the Museum’s outstanding schedule of dance education initiatives including master classes, lecture-demonstrations, and performances led by some of the most influential dance artists of our time.

Home to the School of the Arts, the Lewis A. Swyer Studios at the National Museum of Dance are among the finest dance studios in the Capital Region available to rent.

Our three state-of-the-art dance studios feature sprung floors, high ceilings, central air conditioning, and sound systems. Each studio is soundproof and two-way mirrors allow visitors to observe classes and the choreographic process without disturbance to students and artists. A folding wall system between the three studios allows for tremendous flexibility within the space. When completely open this space mimics the footprint of a full theater stage.

Additional features of the Studios include spacious locker rooms with showers, a comfortable lobby with chairs, an updated lounge and eating area, and an office for our renters. We provide an enclosed courtyard and ample parking surrounded by the beauty of Saratoga State Park. We also offer complimentary wireless internet connection.

The Mr. and Mrs. Ronald A. Riggi Theater, a stunning forty-five-seat black box theater located in the Northwest wing of the Museum, hosts film screenings and lectures, as well as opera, music, comedy, drama, and dance performances. It is also the site for weekly tap classes led by Jason Samuels Smith, Director of Tap Dance Programming. Constructed in 2014, the Riggi Theater counts iTheatre Saratoga/CPI as its resident theater company. It is available to rent for residencies, rehearsal space, auditions, and private events.

If you are interested in renting one or all of the Studios please contact us at school@dancemuseum.org, if you are interested in renting the Riggi Theater please contact us at rentals@dancemuseum.org.
