Mindy Aloff
Mindy Aloff is the author of Hippo in a Tutu: Dancing in Disney Animation and Night
Lights, a collection of poems, and the editor of several books, including Leaps in the
Dark: Art and the World by Agnes de Mille and Dance Anecdotes: Stories from the Worlds
of Ballet, Broadway, the Ballroom, and Modern Dance. Her essays on and reviews of
dance, literature, film, and music have been published in The New York Times, The New
Yorker, The Washington Post, The Threepenny Review, The Dancing Times, and many other
periodicals and anthologies in the U.S. and Europe. A past fellow of the Woodrow Wilson
and John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundations and a past winner of a Whiting Writers
Award, she currently edits the newsletter of the Dance Critics Association and teaches
(dance history, dance criticism, dance and film, the personal essay) at Barnard College.
